Culture Immersion Project
This project was definitely my favorite assignment. Our job was to put ourselves in an uncomfortable social setting, or put ourselves in a culture that we are not familiar with.
Culture Immersion Project
The culture that I chose to immerse myself in was Greek life. As a freshman in college I had a fixed mind about fraternities and sororities. All I could ever think about was drinking all the time and doing some unethical things. One of the fraternities had a table out front and they explained to me everything that they do. I had never thought that they did philanthropy events and was apart of something bigger than just an organization. I decided to Join Alpha Sigma Phi and now I have some of the best relationships I've had at IU Indianapolis.
Step 1: You should experience the situation as an outsider or a visitor.
Step 2: You may need to contact an agency, in advance, to inform them of your attendance or to receive permission from them to participate in an event. Your plunge should be intentional and individual.
Step 3: Be respectful of the group and adhere to their norms.
Step 4: Consult with your instructor if you have questions or concerns about the appropriateness of your choice.
